Dr. Keke Xiao

Keke Xiao, a recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship in Germany and an independent principal investigator at Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 2016. After completing her doctorate, she engaged in teaching and research at Tsinghua University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany. She joined Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in June 2023. Dr. Xiao has conducted in-depth research on anaerobic sludge digestion and the engineering applications of sludge dewatering. She is currently focused primarily on the study of dissolved organic matter in environmental samples. In the field of sewage sludge treatment and disposal, Dr. Xiao has published over 140 SCI papers in journals such as Environmental Science & Technology, Water Research, Chemical Engineering Journal, Environment International, ACS ES&T Engineering, and ACS ES&T Water. Her H-index is 54, with a citation count of 8,577 (as of January 2026), and five of her papers have been recognized as Highly Cited Papers. Dr. Xiao is a member of the International Humic Substances Society (IHSS), the International Water Association (IWA), and the American Chemical Society (ACS). Her research work has been featured in German media. She has been recognized as a Huazhong Scholar and a high-level talent in Shantou City, and has been consecutively listed in the “World’s Top 2% Scientists” ranking from 2020 to 2025. She was selected as the “Best Scientist in the field of Chemistry in China” in 2025 by Research.com and received the “Rising Star of Science Award” from Research.com in the same year. She serves as a review expert for the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Hazardous Waste Identification Review of China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology of Israel. She has delivered over 20 academic and industry invited/keynote speeches. Additionally, she serves as an editor for the environmental ecology journal Environmental Research. Technologies developed by her have been honored with the First Prize of Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award (2024) and the Second Prize of Science and Technology Award from the Chinese Environmental Sanitation Association (2022).

Prof. Suksun Horpibulsuk obtained a B.Eng. (Civil Engineering) with Honors Award from Khon Kaen University, Thailand in 1996. Prof. Suksun was subsequently granted a scholarship by the Royal Thailand Government to pursue a M.Eng. in Soil Engineering at Asian Institute of Technology and duly completed in 1998. He then received a prestigious MONBUSHO scholarship from the Japanese Government to pursue his Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering at Saga University in Japan that he duly completed in 2001. Prof. Suksun joined Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) as a lecturer in 2002. His outstanding research, teaching and service for the university, community and profession over the years was duly recognized when he was promoted to the level of full professor in 2010. He is an associate fellow of The Royal Society of Thailand, as well as a professor of School of Civil Engineering and a founder director of Center of Excellence in Innovation for Sustainable Infrastructure Development at SUT. He is also an Academic Senate member of SUT and Rajamangala University of Technology Isan. He is presently the president of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) â€“ Thailand Chapter, an adjunct professor at Swinburne University of Technology, Australia and a visiting professor at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Malaysia. He also serves as an editor and reviewer for several prestigious national and international journals. His most significant contributions have been in the field of ground improvement techniques and pavement engineering, specifically issues associated with compaction, earth reinforcement, chemical stabilization and sustainable rigid and flexural pavements. He has been awarded a large number of competitive research grantstotalling US$10 million. He has published extensively with over 500 technical publications, including over 400 in leading journals. He has a H-index of 81 (Scopus), 12000+ citations and currently averages 1890 (Scopus) citations per annum. He is a senior professional engineer accredited by Council of Engineers, Thailand and science and technology professional in engineering geology accredited by Council of Science and Technology Professionals, Thailand. He has received Telford Premium Prize from Institution of Civil Engineers, London, UK in 2023.Due to his outstanding contributions for the profession and community as well as his national and international recognition, he was nominated as a TRF Senior Scholar in 2013 and 2016 by the Thailand Research Fund. He received an Outstanding National Researcher award in 2019 from National Research Council of Thailand, a Chair Professor award in 2020 from National Science and Technology Development Agency and Science and Technology Award in 2023 from Thailand Toray Science Foundation .

Ken Yeang is an architect, ecologist and author known for his pioneering work on ecological architecture (since 1971). His work integrates ecology-based principles with architectural structures promoting environmentally-positive ecological biointegration and outcomes. The architecture is differentiated by its nature-centric design based on the science of ecology. He is regarded by many to have invented a systems-based ecological architecture. His work is topical in the face of a planet threatened by environmental catastrophe. What makes his architecture motivating is its compelling signature green aesthetic. His instructive ideas and built work are arrived through an ongoing research programme. The work seeks to regenerate a planet ravaged by urbanisation and callous technological systems. The outcome of his work is published in his many books that enable a deeper understanding of ecological design (in www.amazon.com). The credibility is in his built work, recognised by the awards that include the Aga Khan Award, Prinz Claus Award, Auguste Perret Award (UIA), LiangSiCheng Award (Architectural Society of China), Merdeka Award (Government of Malaysia), Malaysia Institute of Architects Gold Medal (PAM), and the accolades from peers and leading figures in the field. His built work includes: Mesiniaga Tower (IBM) (Malaysia), Suasana Putrajaya (Malaysia), Solaris Tower (Singapore), Great Ormond Street Childrenâ€™s Hospital Extension (London), Nitte University Masterplan (Mangalore, India), National Library (Singapore) and others. Ken was trained at the Architectural Association School (London). He completed a doctorate at Cambridge University (published as Designing With Nature, (McGraw-Hill, 1985) that became his lifetimeâ€™s agenda. He is Fellow (Hon.) of Wolfson College (Cambridge), corporate member RIBA, Fellow (Hon.) American Institute Architects, Fellow Singapore Institute of Architects, Past-President Malaysia Institute of Architects. The Guardian identified him as â€˜one of the 50 people who could save the Planetâ€™.
